Surah Al Mujadila in English Translation with Explain

Surah Al-Mujadila (The Pleading Woman) is the 58th chapter of the Qur'an. It has 22 verses. Here is the English translation of Surah Al-Mujadila:

1. Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of the woman who disputes with you, [O Muhammad], concerning her husband and directs her complaint to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.

2. Those among you who divorce their wives by Zihar (saying to them "You are like my mother's back"), they are not their mothers. None are their mothers except those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an evil statement and a lie. But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving.

3. And those who divorce their wives by Zihar and then retract what they said – then it is the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. And that is what you are instructed. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

4. And he who does not find [a slave] – then a fast for two consecutive months before they both touch one another. And he who is unable to do so – then the feeding of sixty needy people. This is for you to believe in Allah and His Messenger. And these are the limits of Allah. And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment.

5. Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be abased, as those before them were abased. And We have certainly sent down clear verses. And for the disbelievers is a humiliating punishment.

6. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all, and they will swear to Him as they swear to you and think that they are upon something. Unquestionably, it is they who are the liars.

7. Do they not know that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth? Indeed, that is in a Record. Indeed, that is easy for Allah.

8. Do you not see those who were forbidden from secret counsels, then they return to that which they were forbidden and conspire together for sin and aggression and disobedience to the Messenger? And when they come to you to greet you, they greet you with words with which Allah has not greeted you, and they say within themselves, "Why does Allah not punish us for what we say?" Hell is sufficient for them; they will enter to burn therein, and wretched is the destination.

9. O you who have believed, when you confer privately, do not confer for sin and aggression and disobedience to the Messenger, but confer for righteousness and piety. And fear Allah, to whom you will be gathered.

10. Secret counsels are only from Satan, that he may grieve those who have believed, but he will not harm them at all except by the permission of Allah. And upon Allah let the believers rely.

11. O you who have believed, when it is said to you, "Space yourselves," in gatherings, then make space; Allah will make space for you. And when it is said, "Rise up," then rise up; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

12. O you who have believed, when you consult the Messenger in private, then present before your consultation a charity. That is better for you and purer. But if you find not [the means], then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

13. Have you feared to present before your consultation charity? Then when you do not and Allah has forgiven you, then establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah is Aware of what you do.

14. Do you not see those who took as allies a people with whom Allah became angry? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear to a lie while they know.

15. Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing.

16. They took their oaths as a cover and a hindrance from the way of Allah, so for them is a humiliating punishment.

17. Never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah. Those are companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

18. The Day when Allah will raise them all, and they will swear to Him as they swear to you and think that they are upon something. Unquestionably, it is they who are the liars.

19. Indeed, Satan has overcome them and made them forget the remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Unquestionably, the party of Satan – they are the losers.

20. Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger are among the most abased.

21. Allah has decreed, "Indeed, I and My messengers will prevail." Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

22. You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those – He has decreed in their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. Those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah – they are the successful.
