كِتَابٌۭ أُحْكِمَتْ ءَايَٰتُهُۥ ثُمَّ فُصِّلَتْ مِنْ لَّدُنْ حَكِيمٍ خَبِيرٍ
"A Book whose verses are perfected, then detailed from One who is Wise and All-Aware." (7:2)

أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا۟ إِلَّا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّنِى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ وَبَشِيرٌ
"That you worship none but Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner and a giver of good tidings." (7:3)
- The message of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) is emphasized. The Surah stresses that the ultimate purpose of life is to worship Allah alone. The Prophet is described as a warner and a giver of good tidings to those who believe and follow the right path.
2. Call to Follow Divine Guidance (7:4-5)
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌۭ
"And We did not destroy any city except that it had a known decree." (7:4)
- Allah mentions that every community is subject to a decree, and their fate is determined by their acceptance or rejection of Allah's guidance. If they reject the divine message, they face consequences.
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا ۖ وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ
"No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain afterward." (7:5)
- Allah controls the time and fate of every nation. They cannot escape their appointed time, whether in terms of life or punishment.
3. The Story of Adam and Iblis (7:11-25)
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَٰكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا۟ لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا۟ إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ ۖ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ
"And We created you, then We formed you, then We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam,' and they prostrated, except for Iblis; he was not of those who prostrated." (7:11)
- Allah recounts the creation of Adam and the command given to the angels to prostrate before him. All of them obeyed except Iblis (Satan), who was arrogant and refused. This marked the beginning of Iblis's disobedience to Allah.
قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ۚ قَالَ أَنَا۟ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْهُ ۚ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ
"He (Iblis) said, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.'" (7:12)
- Iblis’s arrogance and pride led to his rejection of Allah’s command. He believed that fire (the substance he was created from) was superior to clay (the substance of Adam), thus rebelling against Allah’s wisdom.
قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَنْ تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا ۖ فَٱخْرُجْ ۖ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰغِرِينَ
"Allah said, 'Descend from it, for it is not for you to be arrogant here. So get out; indeed, you are of the humiliated.'" (7:13)
- As a result of his defiance, Iblis was cast out of Paradise, and this moment marks the beginning of the enmity between Iblis (Satan) and humanity.
قَالَ فَأَنظِرْنِى إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
"He said, 'Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected.'" (7:14)
- Iblis requested to be given time until the Day of Judgment to mislead humanity, and Allah granted him that respite.
قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
"Allah said, 'You are of those who have been reprieved.'" (7:15)
- Allah grants Iblis the respite to try and mislead humanity until the Day of Judgment. This reveals Iblis’s mission to lead humans astray.
4. The Fall of Adam and Eve (7:19-27)
وَقُلْنَا يَٰٓءَٰٓدَمُ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَاءِ عَدُوٌّۭ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ ۖ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰ
"And We said, 'O Adam, indeed, this is an enemy to you and your wife, so do not let him remove you from Paradise and cause you to suffer.'" (7:19)
- Allah warned Adam and Eve in Paradise about the dangers of Iblis. They were told not to let him deceive them and cause them to be expelled from Paradise.
إِنَّ لَكَ أَلاَّ تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ
"Indeed, it is [promised] that you will never hunger therein or be unclothed." (7:19)
- Allah describes the abundant blessings of Paradise, where Adam and Eve would never suffer from hunger or discomfort.
فَتَذَاقَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَرَقِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ وَعَصَىٰٓ ءَٰٓدَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ
"But they both ate from it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, and he erred." (7:22)
- Adam and Eve fell into error by eating from the forbidden tree, and as a consequence, they became aware of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise.
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُّحْتَجٍ
"And We opened the gates of the heavens with water pouring down." (7:24)
- This phrase may refer to the flood that occurred later as a result of disobedience.
5. The Story of Other Prophets (7:59-93)
Prophet Nuh (Noah): The Surah recounts the story of Prophet Nuh (A.S.), who was sent to his people to warn them about their evil ways. His people rejected him, and after they refused to repent, Allah drowned them in the flood (7:59-64).
Prophet Hud (A.S.): Similarly, Prophet Hud (A.S.) was sent to the people of ‘Ad, who were disobedient and proud. They denied Hud's message, and as a result, they were destroyed by a violent storm (7:65-72).
Prophet Salih (A.S.): The people of Thamud rejected the message of Prophet Salih (A.S.), and they were destroyed when they killed the she-camel that was sent as a miracle (7:73-79).
Prophet Lut (A.S.): Prophet Lut (A.S.) preached to the people of Sodom against their immoral acts. When they persisted in their wickedness, they were destroyed by a severe punishment (7:80-84).
Prophet Shu'ayb (A.S.): The people of Madyan rejected Prophet Shu'ayb (A.S.)'s message, and they were destroyed by a blazing punishment (7:85-93).
6. Conclusion and Reflection on the Fate of Humanity (7:163-206)
The final part of the Surah discusses the ultimate fate of those who reject Allah's guidance and follow the path of disobedience. The Surah serves as a reminder of the divine justice that will be enacted on the Day of Judgment.
